Through commitment and practice two to three times a week,
you might find PILATES to be
the non invasive active-aging solution you have been waiting for:
"WHAT IS PILATES, anyway?"

Through strengthening what is weak or under–utilized and stretching and releasing what is tight and/or overused, the body is brought into alignment while the core is activated and the spine is supported. From there legs and arms can work with more ease and efficiency. Re-educating the body to move the way it is is designed to will help you keep musculature, joints and bone structure in an optimal state, allowing everyday activities to take place with more freedom and less pain or stress.
The exercises were developed for constant, flowing movements and focus on breath to warm up your muscles, awaken mind and body, stimulate your organs, coordinate breathing and train muscles to work in a correct sequence, offering you maximum fitness benefit.
You will get all components of an effective workout - strength, stretch, balance and over time even
cardio vascular exercise - in each and every session, which makes Pilates so effective. Best of all:
Your body will take what it experienced and learned out of the studio door and you will begin to
move and live "the Pilates way", just like the title of one of Pilates' books suggests: "Return to life"
With all the sitting, hunching, and texting we tend to do, the cues and corrections of each class
will increase your postural and muscular awareness, both inside the studio and the minute you
step out of it. With practice your body gets its effortless upright posture back which in turn takes away years (and seemingly pounds)while displaying confidence and grace.
We encourage our clients to practice, even just for a few minutes every day - and soon you will look forward
to begin and end your day with some of you favorite yummy moves.
Pilates Mat Classes are the floor work version of the Pilates method. These classes take place in a group setting using your body weight as the primary source of resistance.
At Pilates Lake County we take Mat classes a step or two further
by incorporating a variety of smaller Pilates equipment such as Magic Circle and Spine Corrector, but also foam roller, balls and other props to engage specific muscle groups, assist with body positioning and opening up tight areas.
Furthermore we make use of the Pilates Springboard/Tower: Combining essential mat work with the benefits of the Pilates Tower equipment, the equipment supports the body through a system of springs and bars to ensure proper stabilization and positioning, while providing added resistance for toning and lengthening muscles. You won’t believe the full body workout you’ll get.
The Reformer is the most widely known piece of Pilates apparatus and differs from traditional fitness equipment. It provides finely tuned resistance below a moving platform to either assist you and/or resist you. That allows you to work very precisely to develop good alignment, core strength, balance, stability and flexibility in a safe manner.
Footwork on the Reformer alone will transform the way you use your feet and everything above, preventing or alleviating knee and hip issues.
Exercises can be done lying down, sitting, standing, pulling the straps, pushing the footbar, perched on the footbar, or on the shoulder blocks, with additional equipment, upside down, sideways and all kinds of variations.
The Reformer truly reforms your body and gets you are moving through life looking and feeling fantastic! Even better, you will have so much fun you will LOVE working out!
